There is no set weight that is recommended, but the heavier the better. Some people use rocks, some use sand, some use baseballs or golf balls. It just needs to be heavy enough to come back down once you throw it over a limb.
We do not sell replacement blades individually as of now. However, if you bought your saw from us you are entitled to warranty coverage for one year after purchase. If you need a replacement blade and your saw is still under warranty, we will send you a new saw free of charge!
